How To Practice Meditation

There are several different types of meditation, each with its own unique health benefits. Some work to quieten the mind from distractions, while others are more active and prompt you to achieve something. The first step in identifying which meditation technique to do is to analyze your goals. Are you trying to de-stress, relieve anxiety or sleep better–or manifest good health, love & abundance or a new job opportunity? Regardless of which meditation style you choose, every style will help you re-connect with your breath and achieve a relaxed state of mind.

The Purpose

The purpose of meditation is to be able to create this relaxed state of being and carry it with you where ever you go. Here, the body is most receptive, regenerative, and peaceful. You’ll be able to handle stress better, work more efficiently and increase immunity. No matter what situation you are in, meditation trains the mind to be an ally, rather than an adversary. This is a practice that will take some effort, but it will become easier over time.

A Meditation Exercise

To begin, it is suggested to start in the morning, when your energy levels are higher. You may choose to sit up or lie down, but if you know you are prone to falling asleep, it is best to start seated.

Make sure you are in a place where you will not be disturbed. From here, I suggest listening to the sound of your breath. Breathe in and out of your nose, letting your stomach rise and fall. As thoughts flow in, acknowledge them and let them go. It is okay if a thought interests you and you wish to explore it further. Once you are satisfied, thank it for its input and enjoy the peace of its passing.

From here, physically relax your body, systematically from head to toe. Relax your head, eyes, face, neck, shoulders, arms, chest, back, belly, legs, and feet. Try and let all thoughts, noises, and distractions become less important to you. Begin to forget your mind, your body, and even your surroundings. Try to connect with that which just is– that which is being– or even source, divine universal energy. Hold this space for as long as you can and enjoy the connection. This space is a place of no opinions, negative self-talk, worries about the future of work to do. It is simply enjoying the clarity that comes with feeling limitless and being free of all earthly 3D attachments.
